Who is eligible to play for Mason Jr Pro?
To be eligible to participate in the Mason Jr. Pro basketball program, participants must attend Mason Public Schools or be approved by the Mason Jr. Pro board. Approval will be given to homeschool students that live in Mason community. They must have completed the registration and waiver form before the evaluation process. Participants are eligible to play at their grade level or higher.
When do games start?
7-8th girls grade games start first part of November.
3rd-6th boys/girls games start first part of December.
7th-8th grade boys games start first part of January.
All games are scheduled by red cedar basketball league. The schedules are released the week before their first game.

Are there tryouts/evaluations?
Yes. Evaluations will be posted on our website and our Facebook page (Mason Jr Pro Youth Basketball). Please check back regularly as dates/times are subject to change without much notice.
When are evaluations?
Normally evaluations will take place in early September. The dates and scheduled times for evaluations will be determined each season by the Mason Jr. Pro board with the support of and coordination of the head coach. Registration is mandatory prior to attending.
What if my child is not able to attend tryouts/evaluations?
All participants are required to attend the evaluation(s). If a valid medical reason prevents a player from participating in the evaluation sessions, the coach must obtain permission and approval from the board before such player can be added to a team. For any other reason approval from the board must be given before the tryout date.
What are the criteria for placing children on a team?
We do an evaluation/tryout process. All coaches and assistant coaches will be evaluating players. Participants will perform tasks and will be evaluated based on those skills and ranked.
How many players per team?
Red Cedar requires 9 players per roster. Most teams have 10 players.
How many teams per grade?
Maximum is two teams per gender per grade, but each year this number could change. It depends on how much gym space we have available.
If my child doesn’t make a team, what are our options?
We recommend trying Connect Sports.
Will there be fair and equal playing time for each player?
No. There will not be fair and equal playing time. Playing time is based on Grade and Division.
Red Cedar has 3 levels of competition, Gold Silver and Bronze.
3rd & 4th Grade - Make playing time as fair as possible. Coaches may use their own discretion in the 4th quarter only in the case of a close game. An exception to fair playing time would be if a player isn’t attending practice(s) or is out sick for some time.
5th- 8th Grade Gold - All players will play in each game, but the amount of time is at the coaches discretion. An exception would be if a player isn’t attending practice(s) or is out sick for some time.
5th - 8th Grade Silver - Players should be playing at least 3 minutes a half. An exception would be if a player isn’t attending practice(s) or is out sick for some time.
5th - 8th Grade Bronze - Make playing time as fair as possible. Coaches may use their own discretion in the 4th quarter only in the case of a close game. An exception to fair playing time would be if a player isn’t attending practice(s) or is out sick for some time.
If a team consists of more than 10 players, playing time could change from above depending on the number of players on a team. Tournaments- players shall play a minimum of 2 minutes per game at all levels.
Do you run background checks on volunteers?
We do background checks on all the board, coaches and assistant coaches.
Do players purchase their own uniform?
Yes. Uniform information will be sent out after evaluations and teams are rostered.
When are games played?
Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am to 7:30pm at any of the following locations:
Bath, Charlotte, Corunna, Dansville, DeWitt, Durand, East Lansing, Eaton Rapids, Fowler, Fowlerville, Grand Ledge, Haslett, Holt, Ionia, Laingsburg, Lansing Catholic, Lansing Christian, Leslie, Maple Valley, Marshall, Mason, Morrice, Okemos, Olivet, Ovid-Elsie, Owosso, Perry, Pewamo-Westphalia, Portland, Portland St. Pats, Potterville, Springport, St. Johns, Stockbridge, Waverly, Webberville, Williamston.

Are games free to attend?
All games have a door entry fee. All sites where the games are held shall charge a standard admission of $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for students. Any further discounts shall be up to the host community.
Admission for league tournaments and doubleheaders (7th & 8th grade) will charge a standard admission of $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students. Any further discounts shall be up to the host community.
A Family Pass (4 people) can be purchased for $50 and can be used at all non tournament home games.
How do you choose coaches?
Coaches will be selected based upon an application process. Preference will be given to those coaches who have previous experience with the program as well as coaching experience at various levels. The board will make final approval of all coaches. Each head coach is allowed up to 1 assistant coach on their roster.
If there is a snow day for Mason Public Schools, will practice be canceled?
Yes. If school is closed practice will be canceled. If a coach is able to secure gym time on a snow day that practice is optional and is not required.
How do you choose your referees?
Our Mason High School Athletic Director helps our program to set up all our Mason home game referees. All games will have MHSAA certified referees. We also support the MHSAA Legacy program and work to train Mason Students who are working towards their certification.
Are there opportunities for me to volunteer?
We are always looking for coaches and assistant coaches and board members.

How Players are informed if they made a team?
Head coaches will contact players within a week after the final session of evaluations. The head coach will contact players that have not been placed on a team and notify them of such.
